Bayern Munich oversame a tough start…
Bayern Munich had a wonky first half at the end of a busy week against TSG Hoffenheim. Playing 3 games in 8 days showed its impact as the Bavarians looked out of tune against their opposition in Sinsheim. However, the Rekordmeister proved their mettle by turning a bad first half into a thumping 1-4 victory before the final whistle from the referee. Defender Jonathan Tah gave the team’s perspective from Saturday’s game.
After seizing all three points against Hoffenheim, Jonathan Tah explained the swing in momentum of the game(as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We didn’t really find the rhythm for our game in the first half. Hoffenheim played well, and of course we didn’t like that. But we immediately showed the right reaction in the second half, we were there from the start, took more control of the game – and deservedly won in the end,” said Tah.
Like Tah mentioned, it was definitely a game of two halves. Some stats capture that very well. Hoffenheim had 9 shots in the first half with 20 touches in the Bayern box. The Bavarians reacted intensely in the second half containing the home side to just three shots and eight touches in the box. Bayern also increased their productivity taking the xG from .28 in the first half to 2.61 in the second.
The big takeaway is that the team pulled through the difficult phase and recovered strongly to grab a deserved victory. The team and the manager, Vincent Kompany deserve a pat on their shoulders for hitting 3 wins in all 3 games in the week. Well done!
When Bayern Munich traveled to Sinsheim on a short week after taking down Chelsea FC in the Champions League, it was never going to be easy.
Hoffenheim is well-coached, motivated, and playing with a real fire. For a weary Bayern Munich side, that meant trouble, but Vincent Kompany heavily rotated his men and while it was not always dominant or even pretty, the Bavarians showed their grit once again in a 4-1 win.
