Chet Holmgren attends Oklahoma's win over Auburn in SEC football game.
A ranked matchup between SEC teams will bring out a packed crowd. Especially in a state where football is king. You saw that at Norman on Saturday.
No. 11 Oklahoma survived a 24-17 win over No. 22 Auburn. OU's pass rusher R Mason Thomas sealed the result when he sacked Auburn QB Jackson Arnold in the endzone for a safety with a little over a minute left. The ranked win should have the Sooners in the AP's top 10, and it was quite the way to open SEC play.
One person in attendance was Chet Holmgren. The NBA champion is back as the Oklahoma City Thunder will open the 2025-26 regular season in exactly one month on Oct. 21. They will drop their championship banner and hand out their rings in a pregame ceremony before they face the Houston Rockets.
Holmgren posted on social media about his attendance. He's been at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium a handful of times over the last three seasons since he joined the Thunder. NBA players in the college football atmosphere has been a tradition since the league is only a month behind before their year starts.
It's been a fun sports year for Oklahoma fans. The Thunder had a historic year with a 68-14 regular-season record and a Larry O'Brien trophy. Meanwhile, OU has had its best season since Brent Venables took over, with a 4-0 record made up of a pair of ranked wins.
