Personal Thoughts
The Badgers went through three quarterbacks on Saturday. Billy Edwards was not himself and seemed to get hurt again on the second drive, and did not return. Danny O’Neil took over for much of the game, but struggled in a rough performance. He also got banged up near the end after a couple of big shots, prompting Hunter Simmons to lead the team’s lone touchdown drive at the end of the game.
At running back, Wisconsin dealt with an injury to Dilin Jones on a pass protection snap in the first half. He was unable to return, and the Badgers went with a heavier dose of Darrion Dupree, who ran tough, breaking quite a few tackles. Cade Yacamelli remained the third back in the rotation, getting 22 snaps.
At tight end, the disparity is starting to grow more as Lance Mason saw a lion’s share of the snaps. It also seemed the Badgers didn’t have as many two tight end sets with Grant Stec and Jackson Acker’s snap count declining.
Along the offensive line, Wisconsin started redshirt freshman Ryan Cory over the injured Jake Renfro and questionable Kerry Kodanko. They also made another change, rotating in JP Benzschawel for a few series at right guard (and even two snaps at left guard). That led to six linemen seeing a good chunk of snaps on Saturday.
