The Washington Commanders won't have star quarterback Jayden Daniels on the field in Week 3 due to a knee injury. Here's the latest update for when he might return to action.
When is Jayden Daniels coming back? Latest injury update on Washington Commanders QB originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Washington Commanders will be without quarterback Jayden Daniels for the Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Daniels sustained a knee sprain in the Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers and did not practice at all this week before being ruled out on Friday.
In his stead, the Commanders will start backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, giving the veteran his first start since 2022. Mariota has gotten into six games the past two seasons but didn't start in any of them.
So, when can we expect Daniels to return? Here's what we know.
Jayden Daniels injury update
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the good news for Daniels is he avoided an MCL sprain, which would have kept him out for multiple weeks.
"In Washington, reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels is nursing a knee sprain. They’ve ruled out an MCL sprain, but he won’t play. Marcus Mariota steps in against a Raiders team he once played for," Russini wrote.
When it Jayden Daniels coming back?
The fact that Daniels avoided the MCL injury gives him a chance to make his return to the field in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons, but don't be surprised if the Commanders take it slow with their star player and keep him out longer.
Long story short: there is optimism that Daniels comes back next Sunday, but we can't say for sure that will happen.
Fantasy impact
There will be a definite drop-off from Daniels to Mariota, so expect all Commanders pass-catchers to take a hit with the star quarterback out.
