Gamethread 156: Blue Jays vs Royals

The home finale

The Kansas City Royals will play their final home game of the regular season this afternoon, as they try to sweep their series against the Toronto Blue Jays, who are still winning the AL East. The Royals are currently 4-1 against the Blue Jays this season.

The Royals aren’t mathematically eliminated from the wild card race just yet, but barring a complete miracle, they will fall short of consecutive playoff appearances, however, seeing some of the young guys perform well at the end of the season is encouraging for 2026.

The Royals are 78-77 on the season, Michael Wacha will look to bounce back in his start today after struggling to open on the homestand on Tuesday against Seattle. The Royals have won 20-1 and 2-1 in the first two games of the series.

Carter Jensen and Jac Caglianone are both in the starting lineup again today, here is the rest of the Royals starters in their home finale.

The Blue Jays have won 89 games this season, they hold a slight two game lead over the Yankees for the AL East crown. They won the season series from the Yankees and end their season with a 6 game homestand against Boston and Tampa Bay.

22-year-old right hander, and the 20th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Trey Yesavage will start for Toronto this afternoon. In his first career start, he went 5 innings and struck out nine batters. He showed just a three-pitch mix, four seam fastball, slider and a split finger. The fastball sits around 94-95 mph.

Here is the Toronto starting lineup against Wacha.

First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. CT. The game can be watched on the Fanduel Sports Network. After today, the Royals head out west to play the Angels and A’s to end their 2025 campaign.
