Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Wofford Terriers: A View from the Sideline

The Hokies finally get a win on the board against the Wofford Terriers on a beautiful final weekend of the Summer of 2025

That was a win, and those might be a bit on the rare side for the remainder of the season. Maybe a W in the left column will put a bit of wind in the sails and at the backs of the Hokies. It sure was a beautiful day for a game to make it even better.

Saturday, there was a small burst of Summer before the last weekend of the season. Fall starts on the 22nd of September, and it’s already been in the 40’s and low 70’s for a couple of weeks, now. It wasn’t really all that hot for the game, but unlike most days in Blacksburg, there wasn’t any real breeze blowing to move things along and help with the radial cooling. That meant the sidelines were packed with cooling gear, cold benches, cannon fans, and the sideline room to move behind the benches, which is already tight, got to the tightrope walk thing in places.

Pregame Activities were Relatively Quiet

There wasn’t a big booming overwhelming thump of rap going on in the stadium before the game. There was some modern stuff going on, but nothing particularly driving. It was pretty warm on Worsham Field, and most folks seemed to be hanging out in other places.

The band showed up on the far sideline, since getting up the West side was nearly impossible.

The Pregame Warmups were as Subdued as the Tunes

But there was a decidedly more relaxed and focused level of enthusiasm. It seems some of the tension had drained away and there was something positive going on. What was unusual is that during the formal warmups, there were no roster announcements in the stadium. The Marching Virginians even picked up the team exist to prepare for the entrance.

The Start of the Entrance with the National Anthem

There was an Air Force UH-1 flyover and the Corps of Cadets looked pretty huge. They should have let the entire corps stay for the game, they looked great in the Class A uniforms (though I remember them and I am still hot from the experience).

The Game was a Win

Something about the current situation says we should celebrate every “W” we gain. The remainder of the season is the ACC schedule and though the ACC looks like it might be struggling a bit this year, it certainly includes Tech with no permanent head coach and an uncertain direction in the future.

Next Up for Tuesday is the “What Worked, What Didn’t, and Dun Busted”

Remember, Wednesday is 2nd 3rd of the schedule Risk Chart breakdown, and the news isn’t particularly good, folks.

GO HOKIES!!!
