Arsenal 19-year-old Maldini Kacurri completed a late loan move to Morecambe FC this week, joining the National League side until the January transfer window.

The loan is Kacurri’s second spell away from Arsenal, having previously spent half a season with Bromley FC in League Two earlier this year. But that loan didn’t go to plan, with the centre-back only making one start in 18 games and failing to complete 90 minutes on a single occasion.

The teenager bettered that record with Morecambe just three days into this latest loan move.

Linking up with his new teammates for the first time after his transfer was made official on Wednesday, Kacurri immediately made the starting lineup for Morecambe against Wealdstone on Saturday.

Within four minutes Morecambe had the lead, and Kacurri was called into action moments later heading a dangerous cross over his own bar.

The centre-back then had a role to play in Morecambe’s second and third goals, with his forward passes sparking the moves in both cases to go 3-0 up by the 44th minute.

There wasn’t anything Kacurri could do as Wealdstone pulled a couple of goals back, with goalkeeper Archie Mair caught in no-man’s land for the first and a heavily deflected long-range effort providing the second.

Another long-range effort found Wealdstone suddenly drawing level at 3-3 in the 80th minute, shocking the home support.

Fortunately, QPR loanee Emmerson Sutton was on hand to score a winner on his own debut appearance, giving Kacurri and Morecambe the three points their performances deserved.

The 4-3 result was Morecambe’s first win in six games, pulling them up to 22nd in the National League standings with games in hand on the teams above. They’ll next be in action against Halifax Town on Wednesday, September 24th.
