The high school football season continued in Illinois last week, as many of the top programs in the Prairie State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Illinois high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 21.
1. Lincoln-Way East Griffins
The best team in Illinois high school football remained spotless after their 49-14 victory over Rockport. Lincoln-Way East stormed to a 35-7 halftime lead and never looked back. Through four games, the Griffins have surrendered an average of only 5.25 points per game. The Griffins can earn their fifth win if they defeat Naperville Central on September 26.
2. Mount Carmel Caravan
The Caravan cruised to their fourth win this season, dominating St. Ignatius 41-14. Mount Carmel scored 28 fourth-quarter points, putting the game out of reach. They can improve to 5-0 if they can defeat Benet Academy on the road on September 26.
3. Brother Rice Crusaders
The Crusaders improved to 4-0 after their September 19 victory over Loyola Academy. From a 7-6 halftime lead, Brother Rice scored 21 unanswered second-half points to remain perfect in 2025. Next on the Crusaders’ schedule is a September 26 home game against St. Patrick.
4. East St. Louis Flyers
The Flyers are finally in the win column after scoring a season-high 60 points against Alton. Amir Tillman finished with 138 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Omari Hogan had seven tackles for losses, including a sack. Four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd contributed six tackles. East St. Louis will continue their 2025 Illinois high school football season against Belleville West on September 26.
5. Loyola Academy Ramblers
The six points scored by the Ramblers against Brother Rice is their season-low through three games. It’s also Loyola Academy’s lowest output since scoring seven points against East St. Louis during their season-opener last year. The defending Class 8A state champions can get back on track if they can defeat DePaul College Prep on September 26.
6. Glenbard West Hilltoppers
The Hilltoppers’ 35-21 victory over Downers Grove North matches their win total from last season. While the Trojans tried mounting a comeback, Glenbard West’s 28 first-quarter points was enough cushion to eventually improve its record to 4-0. The Hilltoppers can reach 5-0 if they can defeat Lyons on September 27.
7. Oswego Panthers
The Panthers remain unchallenged four games into their 2025 Illinois high school football season. Their latest conquest was a 44-7 demolition of Plainfield South, in which Jezhian Sprinkle (92 rushing yards) and Memphis Huguley (86 yards, one touchdown) powered Oswego’s ground attack. The Panthers can improve to 5-0 if they can defeat Yorkville on September 26.
8. Maine South Hawks
The Hawks extended their winning streak to three games after a 41-21 victory over Barrington. In addition to getting payback for their loss against the same team last year, Maine South is off to a better start through four games this year compared to last season. The Hawks can keep the streak going with a win against Evanston Township on September 26.
9. St. Charles North North Stars
The North Stars are at 4-0 after a 34-12 beatdown of Wheaton North. Save from their one-point season-opening victory against Minooka, St. Charles North defeated their last three opponents by an average margin of 14.6 points. The North Stars’ 2025 season continues versus Batavia on September 26.
10. Lincoln Way West Warriors
For the second straight game, the Warriors scored only 17 points. However, it was enough to defeat Lincoln-Way Central, which they limited to 12 points. Lincoln Way West can get their fifth win in the 2025 Illinois high school football season against Waubonsie Valley on September 26.
