Three talking points from Barcelona 3-0 Getafe

Another strong performance

Barcelona vs Getafe is almost always a case of the unstoppable force against the immovable object, and whilst the Madrid-based club often get the upper hand in their own back yard, they’d never won in Catalonia.

They had begun the 2025/26 season with their best ever showing, however, and to that end, Jose Bordalas’ side could’ve proved to be a real thorn in the side of Hansi Flick and his Blaugranes.

Let’s take a look at three things that shaped the outcome of the game…

Torres the natural heir to Lewandowski?

Rumours that Barcelona are interested in bringing Harry Kane or Erling Haaland to the club to replace Robert Lewandowski keep on coming and likely will pop up throughout the current campaign.

What’s not in doubt is when Ferran Torres is given the opportunities to play, he’s often lethal.

The Shark does miss his fair share of chances it’s true, with one going begging before he bagged his first against Getafe.

However, he’s been consistently getting in the right positions and with more starts as well as playing the vast majority of minutes, there’s no reason to think he can’t replace the Polish international next season.

Sure, he’s no target man in the traditional sense, but Barca have never had an issue with that in the past.

For a player that will still only be 26 by the start of the 2026/27 campaign, and with his supposed peak playing years ahead of him, it would be remiss of the club to not at least consider the possibilities.

It could end up saving them a pretty penny in the transfer market.

Pedri & De Jong remain imperious

The biggest compliment that can be paid to Pedri and Frenkie de Jong is just how difficult they make it for opposition teams to play through them.

It’s odd to think that the Dutchman is only really getting the credit he deserves for his contributions now, but he’s certainly as important to the team as the Spaniard.

With skill sets that dovetail perfectly with each other, it’s difficult to imagine a more successful central midfield pairing.

If both can stay free of injury, they will be the bedrock of more Barcelona success this season.

Hansi Flick’s brilliant man management

The ruthlessness with which Hansi Flick manages this Barca side can’t be underplayed.

With Marcus Rashford the latest player to drop out of the team after turning up on late for training it was another big call for the boss to put Thursday’s Champions League hero on the bench.

And when Raphinha looked like he was going to boil over against Getafe, he was hooked at half-time before his yellow turned into a red.

Torres, the main man in Sunday’s win, brought off with 30 minutes still to play and the chance of a hat-trick taken away from him.

It’s little wonder this team continues to go places with this man in charge.
