It’s a battle of the cellar dwellers tonight on Sunday Night Football
Week 3, Sunday Night Football. Tonight we have a matchup between two last place winless teams. The New York Giants host the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle of the cellar dwellers on Sunday Night Football.
The New York Giants were expected to struggle this year, and they have. They started the season with two road games. On opening day the Washington Commanders dominated the Giants, 21 – 6. A week later the Giants took the Dallas Cowboys into overtime in Dallas before succumbing, 40 – 37. The Giants offense has been up and down, but the defense is currently the worst in the NFL. That may not bode well against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs went to the Super Bowl last season. They were favorites to do the same this season. So far they have not looked the part. The Chiefs have yet to score more than 21 points in a game, and Patrick Mahomes has looked pedestrian with many of his best weapons hurt or suspended. In what has been a surprisingly tepid start for the Chiefs they have lost their first two games on the way to their current last place in the AFC West standings. The Chiefs offense scares nobody at this point, and the defense has only been middling. The offense will have a good opportunity to get untracked against a porous Giants defense tonight. If the Chiefs squander this opportunity their playoff chances will begin to be in doubt. Very few teams recover from an 0 -3 start to make the post-season.
