The Denver Broncos could easily be 3-0 and sitting atop the AFC West division, but after getting beaten on a last-second field goal for the second game in a row, they are instead 1-2.

The Los Angeles Chargers kicked a 43-yard field goal as time expired to win 23-20 and improve to 3-0 themselves.

Denver had a 20-13 lead with just under three minutes to play when on a 2nd-and-6 play, Justin Herbert avoided the sack attempt by Zack Allen and made an improbable touchdown pass to Keenan Allen to tie the score. The Broncos then went three-and-out on their next possession, giving the ball back to L.A., who had all three of their timeouts remaining.

Herbert methodically marched his offense into field-goal range and Cameron Dicker, now the most accurate kicker in NFL history, came out and easily made the game-winning kick.

It was a shocking loss to the Broncos after the way the game had gone up to those crucial moments, much like last week when the team was defeated by the Indianapolis Colts following a terrible penalty on the final play of the game.

The Broncos won't have much time to hang their heads. They'll need to regroup and get ready for their Week 4 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals, which will take place on Monday Night Football.

It's a good thing the season is young and there is plenty of time to get things going back in the right direction, but the Broncos and nearly every fan within Broncos Country were looking for a much different start to this season. Sean Payton will have to find a way to get his team's spirits back up following devastating back-to-back losses.
