Chelsea enjoyed a really busy and productive summer transfer window as they made a host of changes at the club.
There were a number of incomings and outgoings that took place at Stamford Bridge. For instance, the Blues brought in the likes of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, among others and offloaded a number of surplus players from the squad.
However, former Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant believes that the club missed out on a trick by not making a move for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea are in desperate need of an experienced central defender, and this need is accentuated by the injury to Levi Colwill, who has been ruled out for the majority of the season.
However, the Blues decided not to make a move for a new central defender as they believe that they can fill the void left by the defender’s absence with someone from the existing squad.
But the move has not gone down well with Pennant, who has slammed the team for not attempting to sign an experienced central defender.

Jermaine Pennant slams Chelsea for not making Marc Guehi move
Chelsea were also linked with Marc Guehi, but did not make a swoop for him. Pennant has now described the club’s decision not to bid for the Crystal Palace captain as “absolutely crackers”.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said, “That one is absolutely crackers, that, to not go for Guehi when you lose your main centre-back — out for the season — and you’ve got Guehi…, 40 million, just to make sure the deal’s done.”
Given his age and experience, Guehi would have been a welcome addition to the Chelsea backline, as he would have been able to lead the Blues' backline.
Given that the English international is in the final year of his contract at Palace, there’s still a possibility that Chelsea makes a move for him in the January transfer window. However, Chelsea might have to fight off interest from the likes of Liverpool for the player.
