YouTube Gold: A Classic Buzzer Beater

This play took Al McGuire’s breath away.

It’s getting hard to remember, but there was a time when Georgia Tech didn’t suck. When Bobby Cremins was in Atlanta, the Yellow Jackets were always a tough out. He tended to run very tight rotations, generally going with six guys for the most part, maybe seven. But those six to seven guys were all players.

Under Cremins, Georgia Tech was an NCAA tournament regular. The Yellow Jackets made the field every year from 1985 to 1993.

In 1990 they made the Final Four, losing to UNLV in the semis. And 1992 was quite memorable as well.

Tech was a #7 seed in the Midwest and in the second round, they faced #2 seed Southern Cal. And it was a tight game down the stretch, with USC going up 78-76 after Rodney Chapman hit a shot with 2.2 left on the clock.

Georgia Tech had to go the length of the court on the inbounds but it went out of bounds off a USC player at half court on the inbounds pass.

Tech got the ball inbounds to James Forrest with 0.8 left on the clock. Not exactly a three point shooter, Forrest got an awkward shot off…and hit nothing but net.

It was one of the great clutch shots in ACC and NCAA Tournament history.
