Open Thread: Happy birthday to Riley Minix

The undrafted small forward shows perseverance is the key to success

Happy birthday to Spurs two-way player Riley Minix. Today, the former Morehead State Eagle hits the quarter-century mark.

After going undrafted in 2024, Minix joined the Spurs in Summer League, later signing a two-way contract. Minix may have only appeared in one game with the San Antonio Spurs, but he hired during the G-League’s Tip – Off Tournament, averaging 20.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 33 minutes per game, helping Austin to a 10 – 6 record.

Once the Austin Spurs regular season began, Minix only played in the first three games, missing the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

The Spurs want to see more of what Minix can do and extended him a second two-way contract this year. He’s been seen with the team as they make appearances and continue to bind in the offseason, proving that his time with the Silver & Black is not being spent on the outside looking in.

There won’t be a lot of minutes to go around, but between injuries and rest Minix should be able to showcase his talent on the larger stage.

Happy birthday. Here’s to a healthy season and months of opportunities to come.
