As far as Sunday being potentially Pete Alonso’s last home game as a New York Met, he isn’t any more concerned with it than he was last year.

By this time next week, we will have clarity as to whether the Mets crawled into the playoffs and at least saved a little bit of face or completed one of their worst collapses in a long line of them.

You can tell if you’re watching the games, but these Mets aren’t just losing as much as they are giving games away.

Prior to Sunday’s loss, the Mets designated Chris Devenski for assignment and activated Sean Manaea from the paternity list.

Those unhappy fans in the stands helped make 2025 officially the 4th best season in Mets history in terms of total attendance.

The Braves won their eighth consecutive game and did their best to try and hand the Guardians a division tie with their 6-2 win over the freefalling Tigers.

Ranger Suarez was kicked around early and often and the Phillies never really recovered in a 9-2 loss to Arizona. More on the implications of that result later.

With a series against the Mets coming later this week, the Marlins have warmed themselves up by essentially eliminating the Rangers from playoff contention with a 4-2 win to clinch a sweep.

In younger DFA news, the Cubs sent Nate Pearson off their roster to make room for Eli Morgan’s return.

Around the National League Wild Card

Gavin Lux drove in the only run of the game as the Reds pitching didn’t allow a run and they rode a 1-0 win into the third National League Wild Card spot ahead of the Mets.

Out west, things didn’t go much better for the Mets as the Diamondbacks won a 9-2 game against the Phillies and moved themselves within a game of the Mets, the Reds, and the third Wild Card.

In more of a long-shot position, the Giants also won, taking them three games back of the final playoff spot in the season’s final week.
