I anticipated an Ole Miss win but I am not sure anyone anticipated a rout of what was a popular pick to be the Group of 5 representative in the College Football Playoff. Sure the defensive side of the ball is less talented overall than last year, but Pete Golding had them boys ready to roll after getting shredded by Arkansas.

As always, the 4-2-5 report will bring you the four best plays, two players of the game and five interesting stats from the week that was. Let’s get to it!

4 Plays of the Game

This is just stupid. I think the pass is one that could be defined as “ill-advised” but man he put it in the perfect spot and Deuce Alexander made a spectacular catch. This play is Sportscenter Top 10 worthy and it’s going to go down as one of the best catches we will likely see this season. More from Deuce later.

Boy did Deuce bail out Trinidad Chambliss on this one. This pass came after we saw Chambliss shaking his throwing hand and needing attention, whether it was a re-aggravation from the cut suffered last week or jammed digit, this ball was severely under thrown. Alexander tracks the ball, boxes out the defender and hauls in another impressive catch, taking this one to the endzone for six.

Just like the first Kewan Lacy touchdown last week, there’s nothing really eye-popping about this play itself. However, it did just follow an terribly missed pass from Chambliss to Wright on a RPO-TE Pop that would have been the easiest six of the season. Also, I don’t know if it was intentional but QBs are taught to miss low at the front of the endzone and high at the back. He threw this where only Wright had a chance and Dae’Quan continued his breakout year with another nice TD catch.

A field goal as a top play?! Yes and it’s because I want to acknowledge the maturation of gun-slinger Kiffin. Fourth and seven against a G5 opponent in their territory would’ve likely had the offense on the field in years past. But when you have a near automatic kicker and playing with house money at quarterback, take the points and trust your defense.

2 Players of the Game

Deuce Alexander is the no-brainer of the week. It seems Coach Kiffin has found his new favorite toy, a Swiss army knife, if you must. Deuce was the leading receiver with four catches and 95 yards and a touchdown, with two spectacular catches that landed him here. He is also the go-to end around runner, toting the ball twice in this one for 11 yards.

I mean, isn’t it obvious that Trinidad Chambliss was going to show up here again? All he did in his second D1 start was accumulate 419 total yards and two touchdowns. He has yet to turn the ball over and rarely exposes it to be in harm’s way. Remember all the hubbub last week about Taylen Green throwing for 300 and running for 100? Well Chambliss did it and managed to also lead his team to a victory too. He joins Archie Manning, Chad Kelly and Jordan Ta’amu as the only Ole Miss quarterbacks to accomplish this feat.

5 Interesting Stats

  • This is the third time Ole Miss has started 4-0 under Lane Kiffin and the second straight season.
  • Ole Miss has now beaten non-SEC opponents by 30+ in seven straight games.
  • This is Pete Golding’s third season in Oxford and his defense just notched its 12th game holding the opponent under 300 yards of offense
  • Kewan Lacy has seven touchdowns in four games. That’s the most ever by a new Rebel.
  • Dae’Quan Wright is now statistically a top 10 TE in Ole Miss history, which means he has a chance to sky rocket up that chart as he has become one of Chambliss’ favorite targets.
