The Oregon Ducks are already working ahead on the 2027 recruiting cycle, and head coach Dan Lanning may be closing in on a major piece. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster, one of the most coveted prospects in the class, has locked in Oct. 4 as his commitment date.
According to the On3, Brewster holds the No. 8 overall spot nationally, is rated as the top defensive lineman, and sits at No. 3 among players from Texas. His final list of schools includes Oregon, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Indiana, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU.
“I’ve been to really every school and I’ve seen everything I’ve needed to see. I think it’s time,” Brewster told Rivals.
The Ducks have been a steady presence in his recruitment since the spring and were considered the leaders through the summer. Brewster credited the atmosphere in Eugene as a factor that stood out.
“It’s a great environment,” he told Rivals. “You can tell everyone around you loves the game of football.”

While Oregon surged early, other programs have applied pressure in recent weeks. Brewster made a visit to Indiana during Week 4 and watched the Hoosiers upset Illinois, a performance that vaulted them up his list of contenders.
That makes the Ducks’ final push crucial if they want to prevent him from landing in the Big Ten. Since Lanning’s arrival, Oregon has built one of the country’s most consistent defenses, and adding Brewster would extend that dominance.
The Ducks’ on-field results to start this season could also strengthen their case as Brewster weighs his options.
Oregon’s 2027 class currently features only one pledge after four-star wideout Kesean Bowman decommitted. The lone commit is four-star edge rusher Cameron Pritchett, ranked No. 234 nationally and the No. 24 defensive lineman per Rivals. That leaves Oregon at No. 29 in the class rankings.
