Marcus Rashford dropped by Hansi Flick after being just two minutes late for Barcelona meeting

Rules are rules

Hansi Flick made headlines again on Sunday by benching Marcus Rashford for Sunday’s La Liga match with Getafe at Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Rashford was the match-winner against Newcastle in the Champions League but found himself among the substitutes on Sunday evening.

It’s now being reported by ESPN that Rashford was dropped because he was just two minutes late for a meeting and an activation session on the morning of the game.

Hansi Flick had wanted his players to report at 9.30am and took action when Rashford checked in at 9.32am.

The German coach was asked about Rashford after the game but played down talk of why he had been benched.

“It’s normal, because every three or four days we have a match,” he told reporters. “We also need fresh legs on the pitch.”

Barcelona’s loan signing did get on at Getafe and went on to make an impact, grabbing an assist as Flick’s side ran out 3-0 winners.
