New York high school football is in high gear throughout the Empire State and many of the top programs were in action last week. The latest set of rankings sees two new teams soar into the Top 5 as Iona Preparatory School continues to remain New York’s No. 1 high school football team.

Which other New York high school football teams make the list in our second set of Top 25 rankings of the regular season?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest New York high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 22.

1. Iona Preparatory School Gaels

Iona Prep (3-0) sits firmly at the top of New York high school football ever since starting the 2025 season off with an impressive victory right out of the gates. It kicked the season off on Sept. 6 with a high-profile, neutral site matchup against Somers, which was riding a 27-game winning streak.

The Gaels halted the Tuskers’ winning streak and routed them, 37-7, at the Hero’s Bowl Classic and then followed it up with a 53-43 victory over Paramus Catholic of New Jersey. Quarterback Julian Guzman has led the way for Iona Prep’s offense, throwing for 540 yards and six touchdowns through two games.

Running back Crew Davis, a three-star prospect committed to North Carolina, has spearheaded to the Gaels’ efforts on the offensive side of the ball with over 300 yards on the ground this season. Iona Prep’s defensive line should be among the best in the Empire State, thanks in large part to the return of stalwart Dalton Lozin.

The top-ranked Gaels are back at home against No. 9 Cardinal Hayes (1-1) on Saturday.

2. Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy Brothers

Christian Brothers Academy (3-0) has proven themselves time and time again as one of the top high school football programs in the state of New York and are looking the part once again this fall.

The 2025 season kicked off a few weeks ago as the Brothers dominated Whitesboro in a 28-7 decision to start off at 1-0. Christian Brothers improved to 3-0 last week as they soundly defeated West Genesee Senior in a 56-7 rout.

The Brothers look to improve to 4-0 when they return home to face a winless Baldwinsville squad.

3. Tottenville Pirates

Making their way up the rankings to the No. 3 spot this week are the Tottenville Pirates after throughly dominating the competition up until this point of the season.

At the midway point, the Pirates have out-scored their opponents 145-58 on the season, with their most recent performance being a 47-0 rout of Dewitt Clinton last week.

The Pirates have their toughest challenge of the season on Friday night when they take on No. 14 Erasmus Hall. Tottenville will look to avenge two losses against the Dutchmen from last season.

4. St. Anthony’s Friars

Don’t let St. Anthony’s 2-2 record fool you, this Friars team is as good as they come when it comes to New York high school football and they have one of the Northeast’s top running back to back it up.

Junior tailback Xavier Bala has been terrific for the Friars, rushing for well over 350 yards this season and has scored a half dozen times this fall. Bala, who has offers from Minnesota, Penn State and Rutgers to name a few, has fueled the St. Anthony’s offense and will need to keep playing at a high level as the Friars face No. 5 Monsignor Farrell on Saturday.

The Friars begin playing the meat of their schedule, which will include the likes of Cardinal Hayes, Iona Prep and Archbishop Stepanic.

5. Monsignor Farrell Lions

Monsignor Farrell (3-1) started the season with flash when they defeated Christian Brothers Academy (Albany) in a 37-12 rout. The Lions suffered their first loss of the season last week when they fell in a 35-6 loss to Delbarton of New Jersey.

Sophomore quarterback Bryce Moye has been solid behind center in the Lions’ first three games as the signal caller completed 29 of 37 passes for 521 yards and six touchdowns. Senior running back Kevin Gumb Jr. has been the engine of the ground game, with the tailback rushed for 494 yards and eight touchdowns.

Monsignor Farrell now will face another one of New York’s top teams in No. 4 St. Anthony’s (New York) this Saturday.
