Why Jahmyr Gibbs changed his jersey number to 0

It's a pretty amusing reason.

Why Jahmyr Gibbs changed his jersey number to 0 originally appeared on The Sporting News

Jahmyr Gibbs was a star last season, and he's a star last season. That hasn't changed.

But those tuning into Detroit Lions games have noticed something different about Gibbs: his jersey number.

Gibbs is tormenting opposing defenses this season while wearing a 0 on his chest and his back. And that's not what he broke into the NFL with.

The reason why is quite entertaining.

What was Jahmyr Gibbs' old jersey number?

Before this season, Gibbs wore the No. 26 for the Lions.

In college, he had been No. 1 for Alabama.

Why did Jahmyr Gibbs change his jersey number to 0?

Gibbs had a simple reason, as shared by ESPN's Eric Woodyard: "I hated 26."

“When I was drafted, all that was available was 26, 33, 35, stuff like that, so I went with 26," Gibbs said.

This offseason, Gibbs wanted to be No. 1, but that went to Jameson Williams as he also changed his jersey number.

"Zero was right next to it," Gibbs said. "There's no special meaning behind it."

It does definitely look cooler than 26.
