Syracuse football: kickoff time announced for game versus SMU

Hip-hip hurray for a #NonNooner.

It’s a rarity through this point in the season: the Syracuse Orange will have a game that will *not be a nooner.

The ACC announced the game times for Week 6 of the schedule, and Syracuse’s matchup versus SMU on Saturday, October 4 will kick off at 3:30 pm EST. This will be the Orange’s second game of the year where it will kick off at a non-noon time (the other being Colgate).

The ’Cuse-SMU will air on either ESPN2 or the ACC Network. The final decision for what channel the game will be on will be made after this weekend’s games.

Suddenly, that matchup in Dallas just became a lot more intriguing for several reasons.

SMU started off the year ranked as high as No. 16 in the AP Poll and are coming off a College Football Playoff berth and as a runner-up in the ACC. The Mustangs are 2-2 out of the gate with a three-point overtime loss to Baylor and an 11-point loss to TCU on the road. Similar to facing Clemson, this is a game which looked way more daunting in the preseason compared to now.

Will the loss of QB Steve Angeli due to a torn Achilles, a big question moving forward is can Syracuse’s offense keep up with a team like SMU, who is averaging almost 35 points per game through four games.

The Mustangs will be off this weekend so they have the rest advantage for next week. This is also the last game before Syracuse’s first bye week, and it will be the team’s second true road game of the year.

Before facing SMU in the Lone Star State, Syracuse will be back in the JMA Wireless Dome this Saturday to take on Duke. That game will be a nooner.
