The Alabama high school football rankings remain largely unchanged at the top as the 2025 season has now hit the halfway mark.
The top 10 features the same programs, though there’s some slight movement with who landed where. Thompson continues to hold strong at No. 1 following another impressive win over Vestavia Hills, which now checks in at No. 6.
Another five ranked matchups are on deck in the Yellowhammer State this Friday, too, as well as a massive interstate showdown involving No. 3 Central. Below are the top 25 teams in Alabama after week five, according to the Massey Ratings.
1. Thompson Warriors (4-1)
Business as usual for Thompson in its 35-3 drubbing of Vestavia Hills. The Warriors held just a 7-3 lead at halftime, but star junior quarterback Trent Seaborn guided the Warriors to four unanswered touchdowns in the second half. Seaborn threw for 290 yards in the win as Thompson continues to look like the top program in the state. That will continue to be tested down the stretch, though. It now heads to No. 5 Clay-Chalkville this Friday, then to No. 2 Hewitt-Trussville the following week.
2. Hewitt-Trussville Huskies (5-0)
After demolishing inferior opponents in its first two games of the season, Hewitt-Trussville has now rattled off three consecutive wins over ranked teams. The Huskies’ lockdown defense was at it again last week in a 24-0 win at ranked Hillcrest. They are still yet to allow more than 14 points in a game this season and counter on the offensive side of the ball with an elite rushing attack. This week, 3-2 Pinson Valley heads to town.
3. Central Red Devils (5-0)
On the flip side of Hewitt-Trussville’s strengths, Central has a truly potent offense. The Red Devils have now eclipsed 50 points in four of their five wins to start the season after a 53-24 win over Enterprise. They’ve also already won three times on the road. The biggest test of the season comes this week, though, as national powerhouse IMG Academy (Fla.) comes to Phenix City on Friday night. The two were supposed to play last year, but the game was canceled due to Hurricane Helene. The Massey Ratings predict IMG to win 44-24.
4. Saraland Spartans (5-0)
Saraland’s schedule won’t present many challenges if the Spartans are playing to their usual standard on Friday nights. They glided to a 43-10 win over McGill-Toolen Catholic last week and have now allowed just 37 points all season. Junior quarterback Jamison Roberts was the star as he threw and rushed for three touchdowns apiece in a wondrous performance. Saraland is on a bye this week, then welcomes winless Baldwin County to town on Oct. 3.
5. Clay-Chalkville Cougars (5-0)
In one of the biggest interstate games of the week, Clay-Chalkville totally smushed Brandon, a top Mississippi program, in a 47-15 victory. Senior Aaron Frye threw for two touchdowns and also rushed for a pair of scores. The Cougars have been outstanding thus far, but they’ll really see where they stack up this weekend as top-ranked Thompson heads to Pinson. The Massey Ratings predict a 38-19 win for the visiting Warriors.
6. Vestavia Hills Rebels (3-2)
Vestavia Hills now has two losses and they’ve come against the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the state. Thompson bulldozed the Rebels 35-3, leaving them firmly on the second tier of programs vying for a state title. After playing four tough ranked opponents in a row, Vestavia Hills is now favored to win each of the five remaining regular-season opponents on the docket. It hosts 3-2 Prattville on Oct. 3 after a bye week.
7. Auburn Tigers (4-1)
Auburn doesn’t get much of a break when it comes to tough games all season, but it get a sweat-free 56-0 win over JAG last week. It averaged over 8.0 yards per rush in the victory and scored four times on the ground. Like many of the other teams at the top of the rankings, the Tigers have boasted a terrific defense to date. Across their four wins this season, they’ve allowed a total of 23 points. Another ranked clash is now on deck as Auburn hosts No. 19 Moody this Friday.
8. Hoover Buccaneers (2-3)
It’s been a rocky start to the season for Hoover, but it has hung tough and was rewarded with a nice 48-23 win on the road over Prattville last week. That’s the largest offensive outburst of the season for the Buccaneers, who now gear up for two more road clashes across the next two weeks. Jonah Winston and Co. now head to Birmingham for a top-10 battle at Parker on Friday.
9. Mary G. Montgomery Vikings (5-0)
Similar to Saraland, Mary G Montgomery does not have to maneuver through a schedule like many of the other top teams in the state this season. Regardless, the Vikings are taking care of business. They romped Foley 50-7 last week to improve to 5-0 and now host Baldwin County this week. MGM is heavily favored to win each of the remaining games this season.
10. Parker Thundering Herd (4-1)
Parker was once again no match for Carrollton (Ga.), as it fell 43-7 to the Trojans last week. The Thundering Herd saw its 14-game winning streak vanish — that streak began after losing to Carrollton last season — and now regroup for its remaining in-state schedule. No. 8 Hoover is next up in one of the marquee matchups of the week in the Yellowhammer State. The Massey Ratings predict a 26-14 win for Hoover.
