There were statements made during the opening week of the Arizona high school flag football season. The Arizona Republic looks at the top 10 teams that stood out. Vote in our poll below for the team you think is the best in the state as of this week. The poll remains open until noon on Sept. 25. The Republic's top 10 flag football teams: Week 1
1. Chandler Hamilton (1-0)
After a little bit of sputtering to start the season against Gilbert, Hamilton got into a groove and rolled to a 35-3 win as QB Marlie Phillips established a new connection with WR Markiah Riley.
2. Gilbert Highland (2-0)
Highland looks like the real deal, taking down a talented Gilbert Campo Verde team 21-0 in the season opener and then routing Gilbert Williams Field 55-0 with QB Alexis Eley playing at a high level.
3. Mesa Red Mountain (2-0)
Went on the road and opened up the season with a huge 53-0 win over Tucson High before beating Queen Creek Casteel 35-0.
4. Mesa Mountain View (1-0)
In one of the toughest season openers for any team in the state, Mesa Mountain View beat Glendale Mountain Ridge 20-7. Has a big matchup against No. 8 Marana coming up on Sept. 23.
5. Gilbert Campo Verde (1-1)
Rebounded very well after falling to Highland in the opener, shutting out Tempe McClintock 60-0.
6. Glendale Mountain Ridge (1-1)
Nobody had more difficult matchups to start 2025. Began the year in impressive fashion, beating 5A defending champions Waddell Canyon View 27-0 before losing to Mesa Mountain View the next day.
7. Waddell Canyon View (1-1)
Responded with a 27-6 win over Peoria Centennial after the season-opening loss to Mountain Ridge.
8. Marana (1-0)
Came out with a 17-7 win in a hard-fought game against 4A Mesa Eastmark. Has a chance to move up this week with a road trip to Mesa Mountain View.
9. Phoenix Xavier Prep (2-0)
Is Xavier back after a down season? Off to a hot start under first-year coach Matthew Reum, beating Mesa 52-0 and then Goodyear Millennium 31-3.
10. Tempe Corona Del Sol (1-0)
Alongside Xavier, a newcomer to this list. Blanked Phoenix South Mountain 44-0.
On the bubble: Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor, Goodyear Millennium, Casa Grande, Prescott, Mesa Eastmark.
