Studs and Duds from Lions win over Ravens in Week 3, with a big focus on some big-time standouts
Monday Night Football delivered on a marquee matchup of two of the NFL's best teams over the last couple of seasons.
The Detroit Lions beat the Baltimore Ravens 38-30 in a back-and-forth game that felt every bit like two of the league's elite offenses matching each other punch for punch. The Lions offense carried its success from Week 2 over to this matchup and showed signs of prolonged success while the defense managed to contain Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson at key times in ways they hadn't been able to against mobile QBs in the past.
For the game to be as competitive as it was, the Lions saw highs and lows from some of its stars on Monday night. Let's look at the studs and duds from the Week 3 victory.
Stud: David Montgomery
David Montgomery had one of his best games as a Lion, thanks partly to a massive 72-yard run in the third quarter that put the Lions deep into Ravens territory.

Montgomery's vision and decision-making at the line of scrimmage was textbook running back play that saw superstar Jahmyr Gibbs largely taking a backseat. Montgomery finished 151 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries incuding the game-winner.
Dud: Terrion Arnold
Terrion Arnold's bumpy start to 2025 continued on Monday night, often the victim of big pass plays by the Ravens.
Arnold was beaten multiple times and gave up at least three big plays to let the Ravens offense stay on the field. He finished with the second-worst coverage grade of any Lion on Monday night, according to Pro Football Focus.
Stud: Sam LaPorta
Tight end Sam LaPorta was as clutch as it gets on Monday night, converting multiple third downs when the Lions needed to continue keeping the Ravens offense off the field. Goff continuously found LaPorta when drives looked like they were ready to stall out.
LaPorta also contributed significantly in the running game as a blocker, often picking up some key blocks at the beginning of huge runs for Lions running backs. He finished with four catches for 33 yards.
Stud: Penei Sewell
The Lions live and breathe through Penei Sewell, and he delivered on Monday night. He was the Lions' best lineman in a game where the whole offensive line bullied the Ravens for all four quarters.
Jared Goff was kept relatively clean, and running lanes were open the majority of the night for the Lions running back duo. Sewell gets stud status tonight, but it could easily be shared among his fellow big fellas up front.
Stud: Al-Quadin Muhammad
Anyone who puts Lamar Jackson on the ground is probably a stud. Al-Quadin Muhammad sacked Jackson twice on a night when the Lions seemingly lived in the Baltimore backfield -- something we haven't said about a Lions defensive front since early last season. He got in on a sack on the Ravens' final drive, where almost the whole line smothered Jackson.
Muhammad came up with a clutch tackle on Jackson late in the fourth quarter to help force the Ravens to punt and give the Lions a chance to bring the game closer to an end. He'll need to keep this up to keep filling in for the injured Marcus Davenport.
