Paul Finebaum considers the Georgia to be a playoff elimination game for Alabama

ESPN college football expert Paul Finebaum thinks that the Georgia Bulldogs game is a College Football Playoff elimination game for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Finebaum explained why on ESPN's SportsCenter.

"I'm in on that because they've already lost to Florida State," Finebaum said on if the Georgia game is a playoff elimination game for Alabama. "And that may look like a really good loss, but the problem is the calculus. It would be their second loss of the season. And Alabama still has Vanderbilt, yes, you heard me, Vanderbilt, in a week or two. They have Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma (and) Auburn.

"I mean, it is just an endless stream of tough games. Alabama needs to win this game to stay alive."

We have to disagree. This is not an elimination game for the Crimson Tide (2-1, 0-0 SEC). If Alabama won out, then the Crimson Tide would finish the season with a ton of impressive wins and likely make the SEC championship. Last season, plenty of two-loss teams made the playoff. Alabama missed the playoff last year because they were 9-3.

Finebaum is correct that Alabama losing a second game with the remaining schedule they have would likely be a death sentence for the Crimson Tide's playoff hopes. Georgia (3-0, 1-0 SEC) does not need to beat Alabama quite as desperately. However, plenty of Bulldogs players want to score a massive win at home in primetime and avenge Alabama's win over Georgia last season along with the Crimson Tide's 2023 SEC championship triumph against Georgia.

Finebaum will be in Athens, Georgia, for the Georgia-Alabama game. He's on the "SEC Nation" show and "The Paul Finebaum Show", which will both be in town for Georgia-Alabama.
