“Do Bronx” is still headlining in Brazil.

The search is officially over as No. 8-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Mateusz Gamrot has stepped up on short notice (replacing Rafael Fiziev) to face former 155-pound kingpin Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC Rio on Sat., Oct. 11, 2025, inside Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, considering Oliveira appeared reluctant to face “Gamer” while lobbying instead for another high-profile striking battle. But as it turns out, Oliveira doesn’t have “Dana White privilege” this time around.

Oliveira (35-11-1) enters the matchup just four months removed from a brutal first-round knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317 — a setback that raised concerns about his quick turnaround. Prior to that, “Do Bronx” defeated Michael Chandler by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden, though he has alternated wins and losses across his last six outings.

UFC Rio will mark Oliveira’s first fight in Brazil since 2020 and his first appearance in Rio de Janeiro since all the way back in 2009, giving the home crowd a chance to rally behind the fan-favorite former champion.

As for Gamrot (25-3), the Polish contender has long felt overlooked in the Lightweight title picture despite an impressive resume. He’s 4-1 in his last five bouts, most recently scoring a unanimous decision win over Ludovit Klein at UFC Vegas 107.

A victory over Oliveira would finally vault him into the Top 5 conversation and possibly put him on the doorstep of title contention.
