Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum can't say when he'll be back from his Achilles injury. However, he did promise that he'd make his return at home.
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is still several months away — at the very least — from returning to the court following a devastating Achilles rupture during the 2025 NBA Playoffs. However, he already knows who he wants to play in front of when he's finally able to go.
The six-time All-Star isn't expected back anytime soon due to the severity of his injury, yet he's refused to rule himself out for the entirety of the upcoming 2025-26 season. And while talking with Malika Andrews of ESPN on "NBA Today", Tatum declared that TD Garden will be the site of his debut, whether it be next year or beyond.
"Myself, my trainer, my close friends, my mom — I told them a while ago, I put a date on the calendar of when I'll be 100% ready and able to play," Tatum said. "Whenever that date is, it will be a home game in front of the fans at TD Garden. That is something I've dreamed about and envisioned."
Tatum suffered his untimely injury on May 12 and went under the knife to address it less than 24 hours later. That quick turnaround time coupled coupled with Tatum's determination to constantly rehab his injury has made an unlikely return during the 2025-26 campaign a possibility.
Of course, the Celtics will be cautious with their go-to guy, as rushing him back before he's ready would create further problems for a franchise that's currently enveloped in uncertainty. Regardless of Tatum's health, the C's will kick off the new season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 22.
The home crowd won't see Tatum then, but there's still a chance TD Garden will welcome him back sooner than expected.
