Andrew Ashcroft has purchased 8,023,942 of Tottenham Hotspur shares, according to the Guardian. It represents a 3.4% stake in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club, and while the price is not disclosed, the shares are likely to have cost around £100 million based on recent valuations of the North Londoners. Ashcroft is the son of former Conservative Party deputy chairman and billionaire donor Lord Ashcroft – a long-standing Tottenham shareholder. He owned around 4% of Spurs at one time and it is unclear whether Lord Ashcroft has sold his existing shares to his son, Andrew, or if the family have now doubled their stake by buying from minority shareholders.
ENIC remains majority owners of Tottenham, while former chairman Daniel Levy and his family own 29.88% of the 86.58% shares. Until last week, Spurs minority shareholders owned the remaining 13.42% of the club between them. Andrew, a hotelier and businessman, has now purchased 3.4% of the Lilywhites and clarity is now expected to be provided whether it is from the shares of his father, who is one of minority shareholders or from others.
ENIC continues to call the shots being the majority shareholders, and would-be buyers have been told there is no chance for a takeover right now.
