Who else cracks the national high school football composite Top 25 rankings this week?
Below are the top-25 teams in the Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected media and data companies. It includes Massey, MaxPreps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced ranking.
1. St. John Bosco Braves (Calif.)
For the second week in a row, the St. John Bosco Braves (5-0) are the No. 1 team in the land when combining the opnions of the four major services. The Braves have been nothing less than impressive through the first few weeks of the season, with impressive wins along the way over St. Frances Academy (Md.) and St. Louis (HI), respectively. Texas A&M commit Madden Williams has been terrific for St. John Bosco this season, catching 13 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns. Looking at the landscape of high school football around the country, if St. John Bosco and Mater Dei can head into their Halloween meeting both inside of the Top 5, the game would certainly hold national championship implications. The Braves have a bye week this Friday, but return to play on Oct. 3 against JSerra Catholic.
2. Grayson Rams (Ga.)
Grayson (5-0) has weathered the storm without the services of senior quarterback Travis Burgess (North Carolina commit), who a few weeks ago announced he would be out for the remainder of the 2025 high school football season due to injury. All the Rams have gone out and done is win games against regional powers like Alabama’s Thompson and a 63-13 rout of Mallard Creek (N.C.). Junior signal caller Deuce Smith has taken the controls of the offense for Grayson and has played admirably behind center. The Rams took care of business last week in a 51-0 rout over Grovetown and this Friday night face off against Newton on the road.
3. IMG Academy Ascenders (Fla.)
The IMG Academy (4-0) have been the most dominant, consistent football program out of the Sunshine State, picking up convincing blowout win one after another. The Ascenders have now played four quality programs to start the high school football season with their opener against Hoover (Ala.) then beating Winslow Township (N.J.), Coronado (Nevada), Mandarin (Fla.), winning each game by 21 or more points. IMG Academy has leaned mightily on the abilities of Lekhy Thompkins (Louisville commit) on the ground as first-year head coach Greg Studrawa looks to continue dominating teams in the trenches. The Ascenders make another trip into the Yellowhammer State when they take on Alabama’s No. 3 ranked Phenix City Central (5-0).
4. St. Frances Academy Panthers (Md.)
St. Frances Academy (2-1) arguably the most impressive team after the first major weekend of high school football, as they cruised to a 42-13 thrashing of Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fla) at the Broward County Classic. The Panthers’ lone loss this season came when they traveled across the country to take on No. 1 St. John Bosco and narrowly lost in a 21-14 decision.
The loss previously dropped St. Frances Academy down four spots to No. 6. St. Frances Academy bounced back with a 34-26 win over previously nationally ranked St. Joseph’s Prep School (0-3), who has also lost to American Heritage (Fla.) and DeMatha Catholic (Md.), respectively. The Panthers return to play next Friday when they host The First Academy (Fla.) in Baltimore.
5. Mater Dei Monarchs (Calif.)
Mater Dei (4-1) made up for their surprising loss to Corona Centennial and bounced back in a huge way when they defeated a previously undefeated Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. The win for the Monarchs showed a lot of grit for a program that needed to overcome some adversity from the previous week.
The Monarchs this season has edged out St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) at the Broward County High School Football Classic down in Fort Lauderdale, pulling off a 26-23 victory to start the 2025 season. The Monarchs had to do it again a couple weeks ago in a 21-18 win over Kahuku (Hawaii). Raul Lara’s group didn’t have a game a few weeks ago due to Bishop Montgomery canceling their scheduled matchup due to a lack of eligible players. Mater Dei gets to take a brief rest this week before next Saturday hosting an always dangerous Orange Lutheran squad.
6. Bishop Gorman Gaels (Nev.)
Bishop Gorman (4-1) had their chance to finally break the winless skid against Mater Dei and came close, but no cigar. The Gaels dropped their first game of the season and there’s no time to try and figure out what happened as they take on No. 17 ranked Santa Margarita Catholic on Saturday night. Hawaii commitment Maika Eugenio has been dealing through the first several games, throwing for 1,339 yards and 16 touchdowns on the season.
It is a forgone conclusion that the Gaels are destined to win another Nevada state championship, but that’s not the ultimate goal for this program as they continue to remain in the national picture. If Bishop Gorman can win decisively against Santa Margarita this Saturday, this could shift the Gaels right back into the mythical national championship conversation.
7. Buford Wolves (Ga.)
Buford’s (5-0) has had arguably one of the most impressive starts of any Georgia team this 2025 high school football season because of the programs they’ve faced.
First up to start the season was a meeting with No. 18 Milton, with the Wolves coming away with a 20-13 victory on national television. The Wolves then hit the road to Savannah to face a very good Benedictine Military School squad and won by multiple scores. The 65-21 rout of Roswell a couple weeks ago leaves many wondering if Buford could be the team to beat for Georgia’s Class 6A state championship when it’s all said and done.
The Wolves last week took on Discovery and rolled to a 71-7 victory. Now Buford will take a much needed bye week before getting geared up for the second half of the season, starting with a talented Collins Hill team on Oct. 3.
8. Southlake Carroll Dragons (TX)
The Lone Star State went from having two teams, Duncanville and North Crowley, inside of the top 10 nationally, done to one. Yes, that’s the Southlake Carroll Dragons (4-0), which have played the most impressively and consistently of any team out of Texas.
In what looked like a possible test for the Dragons when they took on Euless Trinity last week turned into a complete and utter rout. Southlake Carroll dominated from start to finish in a 44-6 romp, leaving no questions on the best in Texas.
In the win last week, Ohio State commit Brock Boyd broke a 20-year old receiving yardage all-time record and now sits along as Southlake Carroll’s leader with 3,304 and counting. It’s a quick turnaround for the Dragons as they take on a winless Timber Creek tomorrow night.
9. Bergen Catholic Crusaders (N.J.)
You hear those grumblings? That’s the folks in Northern New Jersey wondering how its taken this long for the Bergen Catholic Crusaders (4-0) this long to return into the Top 10 nationally.
In all fairness, the Crusaders have deserved their flowers this season as they’ve passed every wrench thrown at them this fall. From beating East St. Louis (Ill.) at the Battle at the Beach Classic to traveling down to South Florida and upending West Boca Raton to destroying New Jersey public school power Winslow Township. What more can Bergen Catholic do?
Well, there is one more opponent, or should we say rival they’ll need to get by in order to remain atop of New Jersey and that’s a primetime matchup against Don Bosco Prep on Friday night.
10. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers (Calif.)
Last and certainly not least is the third team out of the great state of California is the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers (5-0).
This program’s most recent win was the most impressive of them all, making an impression on everyone nationally to the dominance of Sierra Canyon and being a potential threat to St. John Bosco and Mater Dei when it comes to the state’s Open Division title.
Bullying a very good Orange Lutheran team in a 41-9 victory earned Sierra Canyon and bouquet of flowers and then some. Next time the Trailblazers take the field is next Friday night against Junipero Serra.
