Keegan Bradley had a hilarious mistake in the Opening Ceremony of the Ryder Cup, referring to Justin Leonard as Justin Rose.
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Everyone makes mistakes. Some of them are just funnier than others.
Like Keegan Bradley's goof on Wednesday afternoon during the 2025 Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony. The United States captain was giving his speech, talking about his days at St. John's when he would sneak onto Bethpage Black and play holes 3-14 on Mondays.
He also talked about his passion for the competition and how it started. It was in 1999, when a 13-year-old Bradley was on his father's shoulders watching Justin Leonard's putt drop on the 17th hole before celebrating on the 18th with the fans at the Country Club at Brookline.
"That was the moment golf stopped being a game and started being a calling. That day changed my life," Bradley said.
However, it's when telling the story that he made a gaffe. He called Justin Leonard Justin Rose, the 45-year-old European making his seventh Ryder Cup appearance and sitting only feet behind Bradley.
Bradley never noticed his mistake. A few people in the crowd sure did. And so did Rose and the Euros, who all looked around at Rosie and had a good laugh before letting the moment pass.
Bradley would go on to say, "these memories, Brookline, Bethpage, New York, they shaped me. But they also taught me something deeper, that golf at its best is more than just a game."
And on Friday, Bradley gets his chance to shine, trying to help the red, white and blue reclaim the Ryder Cup on home soil.
