Barcelona, given their financial situation, have been turning greater focus on the recruitment of youth talent, with the plan being to sign youngsters with promise and potential and develop them into stars at La Masia.
The sporting management, led by director Deco, has thus been keeping a close eye on exciting young players across the globe, with the club scouts set to attend the U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Deco in Zagreb for Cardoso Varela and Rafael Belinha
Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona director Deco was in Zagreb alongside football agent Andy Bara on Wednesday.
Both travelled from Madrid a couple of days ago, and last night they were in the directors’ box at Dinamo Zagreb. The Croatian team faced Fenerbahçe and won 3-1 in front of their supporters.
The main reason for the trip was the meetings held during their brief stay in the Croatian capital. Firstly, Deco met at the Hotel Westin Zagreb with Rafael Belinho, a Brazilian prospect represented by Bara.
Although it was a very informal first meeting, since the parties did not know each other, they took the opportunity to put faces to names, exchange anecdotes, and take photos with a skilful youngster who is expected to make headlines in the future.
The player’s father was also present at the meeting.

The trip also served to observe Cardoso Varela. Barcelona have been interested in him for some time, but various obstacles have prevented his arrival.
The player has renewed his contract with Dinamo Zagreb until 2028, although the intention remains to attempt his signing next summer.
His name has been part of many discussions, and an attempt was made last summer without success.
In yesterday’s match, Varela, who usually plays with Dinamo’s reserve side, came on in the 93rd minute and barely had time to show his qualities.
Deco’s presence in the city reinforces the idea that the club continues to keep the Croatian pathway alive with the help of Andy Bara, who has already facilitated several favourable operations for Barcelona, such as the signings of Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia.
