Injury Watch: Pino Should Play on Saturday for Palace

Crystal Palace’s signing could miss Saturday’s clash against Liverpool.

Liverpool FC will travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday, in a clash between the two last undefeated teams in the Premier League.

Oliver Glasner’s team have taken nine points from their opening five matches. Two wins and three draws leave them in fifth place, and confidence will be high after extending their unbeaten streak to 17 games in all competitions with a 2-1 victory at West Ham.

Crystal Palace have also only lost two of their last seven meetings with Liverpool across all competitions, including their penalty shootout triumph in the Community Shield following a 2-2 draw at Wembley, which makes them tricky opponents for the Reds.

Summer signing Yeremy Pino was withdrawn at half-time in the win against West Ham, raising questions about his availability. Glasner had this to say after the game:

“He had pain in his knee. We don’t know exactly what it is, so we’ll assess him tomorrow, and I think we’ll have a scan. Hopefully it’s not too serious, but he couldn’t continue playing.”

However, according to Sky’s Fantasy reporter James Savundra, Pino trained and is set to feature. Regular Liverpool tormentor Ismaila Sarr, who had been sidelined with a hamstring injury, is also expected back in training this week and could be included against Liverpool, providing Palace with an attacking boost.

In other areas, Adam Wharton returned to the starting eleven against West Ham following a groin problem. Goalkeeper Walter Benitez remains unavailable, and long-term absentees Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad continue to be sidelined.

For Liverpool, the squad had been in a good place, with everyone available for selection for last weekend’s game. The Reds will now have to do without Giovanni Leoni after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Southampton in the League Cup.
