Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone was quick to make his appreciation for a member of his attacking ranks crystal clear on Wednesday.
The player in question? Julián Álvarez.
Frontman Álvarez is for his part fresh off an outing to remember yesterday evening.
This came as Atlético Madrid welcomed Rayo Vallecano to the Metropolitano, desperate for a return to winning ways.
When all was said and done, this is precisely what the Rojiblancos managed, courtesy of a 3-2 result.
And it was the aforementioned Álvarez who proved himself the undisputed star of the show.
This came by way of a spectacular individual showing on the part of the Argentine, which saw him net all three of Atléti’s goals.
And the significance of these efforts, as alluded to above, was not at all lost on Álvarez’s headmaster.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the full-time whistle in Spain’s capital on Wednesday night, Simeone gushed:
“Julián Álvarez is the best player we have, we need to take care of him and keep him for many years at Atlético. We have to help him be even better than he is.”
