Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The Birdhouse Falcon 2 skateboard Tony Hawk used to land the first 900 at the 1999 X Games sold for a record $1.15 million at auction, Julien's Auctions announced.

Hawk is widely regarded as the greatest and most-influential skateboarder in history.

The transaction, completed at an auction Tuesday at Loews Hollywood Hotel, resulted in a record for the most ever paid for a piece of skateboarding memorabilia.

Hawk, 57, attended the sale in Los Angeles.

Hawk landed the 900 -- which involves 2 1/2 midair revolutions -- on his 11th attempt of the trick at the X Games on June 27, 1999, in San Francisco. He took home vert doubles and vert best trick gold medals for his efforts.

Overall, Hawk earned 16 medals at the X Games, including 10 gold.

"This historic result is not just a landing for Julien's Auctions but for the culture of skateboarding and collecting," Julien's Auctions co-founder Martin Nolan said in a news release.

"With the 900 board shattering a world record, we're truly catching some air -- propelled by the passion of bidders and the enduring legacy of this iconic moment in sports history.

It's a privilege for us to honor such a groundbreaking achievement in skateboarding through this extraordinary sale."

The helmet Hawk wore during the trick sold for $115,200. His knee pads and sneakers from the trick sold for $57,600 and $64,000, respectively.

Hawk's 1982 Powell-Peralta signature pro model -- the first pro model skateboard he rode -- went for more than $57,000. A bronze medal from the vert finals at the 1999 X Games brought $8,960.

Proceeds from the sale benefited the Skatepark Project, a nonprofit Hawk founded in 2002 dedicated to building skateparks in underserved communities.
