Packers release former Georgia Bulldogs second-round NFL draft pick

The Green Bay Packers have released former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver and three-time Super Bowl champion Mecole Hardman

The Green Bay Packers have released former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Mecole Hardman from their practice squad ahead of Week 4. The Packers signed UMass rookie receiver Jakobie Keeney-James to their practice squad.

Green Bay elected not to elevate Hardman from its practice squad for the Cleveland Browns game in Week 3 after placing receiver Jayden Reed on injured reserve. Both Hardman and Reed have similar roles (slot receivers that are also kick returners), so it was a bit of a surprise that Green Bay did not promote Hardman. That decision puts context to why Green Bay is releasing Hardman.

Hardman still has good speed and is just 27 years old and will look to land with another practice squad. The most obvious destination for him is the Kansas City Chiefs, who have a few notable injuries and suspensions to their wide receiver group right now.

Last year, Hardman recorded 12 receptions for 90 yards and five rushes for 62 yards and one rushing touchdown with Kansas City. He also added 20 punt returns for 203 yards and five kickoff returns for 132 yards and appeared in 12 games.

Hardman caught the Kansas City Chiefs' game-winning overtime touchdown in Super Bowl 58, but the former second-round 2019 NFL draft pick doesn't have another receiving touchdown since then.
