Dallas Cowboys' DeMarvion Overshown inching closer to return from injury

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown showed another sign of progress in his return from a major knee injury suffered late in the 2024 campaign.

The Dallas Cowboys could use a significant boost on the defensive side of the ball after the unit has struggled through the first three games of the 2025 season.

The subtraction of Micah Parsons has proven disastrous, as we all expected. Kenny Clark has been good, but not good enough to make up for the loss of a generational talent like Parsons.

The good news is, the Cowboys have hope when it comes to getting that boost we mentioned, as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who is working his way back from a torn ACL, MCL and PCL suffered last season.

On Thursday, ESPN's Todd Archer noted that Overshown was doing rehab work on a side field with his helmet on, something the Cowboys media had yet to see.

Sure, it's a baby step forward, but a step forward nonetheless.

"This was a first for us today with DeMarvion Overshown wearing his helmet while doing rehab work," Archer wrote.

Last week, Overshown told Tommy Yarrish of the team's official website that he is now healthy and all that remains is "easing me back into playing football."

"I'm getting there. It's definitely to a point where we're getting the last clears from my surgeon, and now it's just easing me back into playing football. The knee is healthy, I'm moving around fast, strong, now just being smart with the timing," Overshown said.

Overshown had previously said he was targeting Thanksgiving as his return date, but the 2023 draft pick now believes he could be back before that.

"I don't want to say that's the target date, but I feel like I'll be playing football before Thanksgiving with the team." Overshown said.

After missing his rookie campaign in 2023, Overshown immediately cemented himself as one of the better linebackers in the NFL in 2024.

His return will provide a much-needed boost to both the pass-rush and run defense of the Cowboys, two areas the team desperately needs to improve.
