Hard to disagree with former Chelsea player as he slams club’s owners for decisions

I find it hard to disagree with one former Chelsea player as he slams the current owners for some recent bad decisions.

Chelsea are going through a little moment already in this season and if you look it at, they have only actually won two games so far. The last three games have been rough, even despite actually winning the game against Lincoln City on Tuesday night – the performance itself was very poor and we know Chelsea got very lucky to win it in the end.

There has even been talk already from one Chelsea journalist that Enzo Maresca is becoming frustrated with what he has been left with in his squad after the summer transfer window, hinting at a fractious relationship with the board room.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has never been shy to voice his opinion on the state of affairs at the club, and he’s often been on the new ownerships back for decision they have made. He was talking earlier how Chelsea should have signed Gianluigi Donnarumma, who ended up joining Manchester City this summer instead.

And now he’s been slamming Chelsea for not signing a new centre back and a new goalkeeper this summer.

Mikel is spot on really

John Obi Mikel talks about what Chelsea need to win title.

On his latest Podcast, Mikel said:

“If your best centre back gets injured and the market is open, go out and get another top centre back, we can see it now, conceding too many goals.

“Attack will win you games, but the goalkeeper and defence win you trophies.

“Every season we have to think about winning the league, you can’t just go and sign [Mike] Maignan for free and say oh well we’ve got a goalkeeper now, no, we have to win now! We should have signed a top class goalkeeper, every year this club should be thinking about winning the league. Donarumma was there, we could have found a way to fit him in our wage structure.”
