Lionel Messi has shattered yet another Major League Soccer (MLS) record after agreeing a new two-year contract with Inter Miami, AS reports.

The new contract will keep the Argentine legend at the Chase Stadium until 2027.

The Saudi Pro League (SPL) were waiting in the wings, desperate to bring Messi across the desert, but the agreement with Miami ended weeks of speculation about his future.

Miami were keen for the Argentine superstar to lead the team into their new stadium in 2026 and will now get their wish.

It also ensures continuity for Messi, who is preparing for what is expected to be his final World Cup appearance in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Messi has wasted no time repaying Miami’s faith, with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner enjoying another record-breaking season in MLS.

He bagged a brace and an assist in Miami’s most recent 4-0 win against New York City FC.

His brace took him to the top of the Golden Boot standings ahead of Los Angeles FC forward Denis Bouanga and Nashville SC striker Sam Surridge.

Messi has now scored 24 goals in 23 league games for Miami and is averaging a goal every 82 minutes.

He has scored five goals and provided three assists across his last three appearances, earning him a perfect 10 rating from Sofascore in each game.

He’s the only player in MLS to earn two perfect individual ratings from Sofascore this season.

The 38-year-old phenom is also the first player in MLS history to record at least 35 goal contributions in consecutive seasons.

He’s just 16 goals shy of 900 in official competitions, a tally only bettered by Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s also just eight assists away from a staggering 400.

Messi is spearheading Miami’s push for the Supporters’ Shield. Javier Mascherano’s side are just five points off table toppers Philadelphia Union, with two games in hand.
