EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Franklin football defeated Coronado in convincing fashion Thursday night in the annual Westside Bowl, 59-7. This is the Cougars 8th straight victory over its rival.

Game highlights included Franklin running back Ernie Powers collecting seven of the Cougars eight touchdowns on the night.

After a slow start, Franklin would pick up speed at the 2-minute mark in the first quarter on a Powers touchdown to give the Cougars the 10-0 nothing lead.

Franklin would continue to build upon this momentum throughout the first half to head into the locker room at break, up 24-0.

Things wouldn’t stop here for the Cougars. Franklin kept Coronado scoreless throughout three quarters of play to build a 52 point lead.

The thunderbirds wouldn’t get up on the board until 5 minutes left in the game, when West Stansbury connected with Christian Frescas on the deep call to cut its deficit, 52-7.

Another Powers touchdown in the final minutes of the game would put the Cougars back up by 52 to seal its win over Coronado, 59-7.
