Hello and welcome back to the Friday Feedbag. The Mariners’ hot streak continued last week and not only did they sweep the Astros in Houston, they just kept winning and have already locked up the division, a first-round bye, and the number two seed. Somehow, this is real life! It’s all happening.

On Tuesday, the team celebrated clinching its second playoff-berth in four seasons. On Wednesday, the team showed no signs of a hangover and won again to win the AL West for the first time in 24 seasons. On Thursday, the Mariners locked down a first-round bye for the first time in franchise history thanks to the Tigers beating Cleveland, and then the Mariners won anyways to complete the sweep of the beleaguered Rockies. This has probably been the most exciting week at T-Mobile Park since the 2001 Mariners hosted a bunch of playoff games against Cleveland and the Yankees. So, in other words, the most exciting week of Mariners baseball (besides the 2022 Wild Card series?) for a good chunk of the team’s fanbase who was either not alive yet or barely sentient in 2001. I’m just trying to put all this in perspective and also trying to get the pessimistic part of my brain to understand these events are really happening and this 2025 Mariners team is really good.

Anyways, the Feedbag!

Some playoff prompts:

  1. Who are you hoping the Mariners play in the ALDS? If the standings hold as is, it would the winner of Detroit vs. Cleveland, but there could be a shake-up where the Mariners end up playing Boston or even the Astros if Detroit totally blows it. It’s very unlikely they’ll play New York.
  2. The playoffs are random and cruel. How are you preparing yourself mentally for coming weeks?
  3. Besides Cal Raleigh, who is clearly the team MVP and (hopefully) the AL MVP, who is the second-most valuable Mariner player this season?

That’s it, folks. Embrace Mariners Fever, wear your Mariners gear all day every day, and let’s make some noise in October!
