Cole Palmer, Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana all set to miss time with injuries

PEOPLE BE DYING OUT HERE

Chelsea’s injury list has suddenly ballooned into double-digits, with several players set to miss time over the next couple weeks, before the next international break coming up after the first weekend of October.

The most notable of these new names is, unsurprisingly, Cole Palmer, who had to be taken off 20 minutes into our game last weekend against Manchester United with a recurrence of the groin problem that he’s been nursing for several months already. Since Chelsea are desperately hoping to avoid surgery — seems a futile effort, really — we’ve now decided to shut down Palmer for the next few weeks, to see if things get better. I don’t want to overly negative, but, like, just bite the bullet and get it done, and get him on the way to proper healing and recovery.

“We decided to protect a little bit Cole in terms of him not getting a worse injuries. So we decided to rest him for the next two, three weeks, probably until international break, just to see if with that rest he can be able to recover 100% and to be completely fit after the international break.

“[But] I don’t think he needs surgery. It’s just a matter of managing his pain and his groin. The amount of games is something that can happen. So this is the reason why we try to be conservative with him to give him rest and hopefully he can be 100% fit after the international break.”

Sigh.

Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite uncle, Tosin Adarabioyo is not set to miss time with a calf problem while Wesley Fofana’s dealing with concussion symptoms following a collision in the midweek win over Lincoln City in the League Cup. As annoying as it is for him to miss more game, it’s good to see that we’re treating head injuries as seriously as they should be.

“We have a Tosin injury that probably will be out until the international break. He has a small problem in his calf.

“And then Wes Fofana, that he had a concussion the other day against Lincoln. And the rest, I think they are all okay.”

On the plus side, Josh Acheampong’s back in training after a brief bout of illness and Benoît Badiashile and Roméo Lavia could be back at long last as well. Though for this weekend, it looks like we’ll be scraping together a matchday squad — but won’t be including Axel Disasi from the Bomb Squad.

“Romeo and Benoit, they are better. We’ll see if they can join us tomorrow. Otherwise it will be for the next one.”

“We trust Josh, not because of the injury situation, so nothing changed with Josh. We trust Josh 100%. He was ill this week, he had the first session yesterday with us.

“There is not any information from the club to consider [Axel Disasi], so at the moment he is not an option.
