The New York Jets updated quarterback Justin Fields’ availability for Monday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
The New York Jets will have quarterback Justin Fields for Monday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced on Saturday. Fields missed New York’s Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a concussion. The injury was sustained during the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 2 contest against the Buffalo Bills.
Fields had completed just three passes for 27 yards in the game before the injury. He has thrown for 245 yards with a touchdown on a 57.6 percent completion rate in his first season with New York. The former 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft spent last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers after three seasons with the Chicago Bears.
Field has just a 61 percent completion rate for his career, throwing 46 touchdowns and 31 interceptions over his five seasons in the league. In comparison, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has a 68.2 career completion percentage, including a league-leading 72.9 percent mark last year. Over his six years in the NFL, Tagovailoa has thrown for 105 touchdowns with 48 interceptions.
Where Field has an advantage over Tagovailoa is in his scrambling ability. Fields can run, and the Dolphins’ defense as struggled with mobile quarterbacks for several years. If Fields is comfortable enough in his recovery to look for running opportunities, there may be openings in the Miami defense.
Both the Dolphins and the Jets enter this week’s game with winless 0-3 records for the season. The game is set for kickoff at 7:15 p.m. Eastern on Monday as the early game in a two-game Monday Night Football window. The game will be at Miami Gardens’ Hard Rock Stadium.
