Chelsea Are Keeping A Keen Eye On This Barcelona Midfielder: Decent Option For Maresca?

In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Chelsea are keeping a keen eye on Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado. It has been stated that the Blues have identified the Spanish talent as a target for next year.

Casado’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football

The 22-year-old had a decent campaign at the Catalan club last season when he put in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. Casado found the back of the net once and earned six assists in 36 appearances for Barca in the previous campaign across all competitions.

The Spanish talent anchored the midfield well as he made 44 tackles, 20 blocks, 22 interceptions and 22 clearances in La Liga. He even distributed the ball accurately from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 89.3% in the Spanish top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Nou Camp will expire in the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for the Blues to sign him on the cheap next year.

Will Casado Be A Decent Option For Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca?

Casado is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when needed and can strike the ball well from long range.

The Spanish sensation is an accurate passer of the ball as well and can engineer some inviting chances for others around him in the final third. Casado is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League.

We can expect Casado to enhance the quality of Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s midfield department. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming years.

At 22, Casado has got a bright future ahead of him and would be a great option for the West London giants to consider in the long run. Therefore, Maresca would be wise to move in for him this January or at the end of this campaign.
