The win pushed Virginia to 4-1.
Virginia’s postgame euphoria after beating Florida State has come at a slight cost.
The ACC said Saturday that it had fined the school $50,000 after fans rushed the field following the Cavaliers’ 46-38 double-overtime win over No. 8 Florida State on Friday night.
Virginia students and fans wasted no time getting onto the field after Florida State’s fourth-down pass into the end zone to receiver Squirrel White fell incomplete.

White was still on the turf in the end zone as fans rushed the field. Per On3 Sports, White was uninjured in the massive incursion.
The fine is $50,000 because it’s Virginia’s first offense and the money is donated to a scholarship fund for athletes in the conference who are working toward a graduate degree. The ACC’s fine structure is based on a school’s number of offenses while the SEC implemented a policy ahead of the 2025 season that levies a $500,000 fine on a school for each field or court storming.
The win moved Virginia to 4-1 and was the biggest win for the program under coach Tony Elliott. The Cavaliers haven’t been to a bowl game since the 2019 season and could be poised for a top-five finish in what looks to be a wide-open ACC.
Virginia is also the second school fined this season under the ACC's policy. The first? Florida State. FSU got fined in Week 1 as fans rushed the field following their upset win over Alabama.
