UFC veteran disqualified after several illegal shots during fight
Wanderlei Silva’s first boxing match ended in disaster Saturday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“The Axe Murderer” met Brazilian boxing legend Acelino Freitas in the main event of Spaten Fight Night 2 and was knocked out cold by a member of Freitas’ team when a post-fight brawl broke out seconds after Silva was disqualified for multiple fouls committed in the fourth round.
Silva outweighed the experienced Freitas by nearly 50 pounds and tried to be more aggressive but had no answer for “Popo’s” refined technique. “The Axe Murderer” was rocked in round one, and clipped again in round two.
Things got wild in the third round with Silva literally walking over Freitas and dropping him on the round with a push. No knockdown is awarded, and Freitas got back for a wild finish to the round with multiple punches thrown after the bell.
The referee had to separate both fighters in round four when they kept punching each other. Silva was deducted a point for a head butt, and then another one. Freitas landed a perfect left hook to Silva’s chin, and Silva committed another foul. The referee deducted Silva a third point in that round, and then disqualified him.
Chaos broke from that point on with Silva’s team, including fellow UFC veteran Fabricio Werdum and Andre Dida, entering the ring to fight with members of Freitas’ corner. Punches and kicks were thrown, and Silva was knocked out cold inside the ring.
In the co-main event, Beatriz Ferreira successfully defended her IBF world lightweight title for the third time with a 10-round decision over WBO Latino super featherweight champion Maira Moneo.
The early portion of the card had Hebert Conceição dominate Yamaguchi Falcão throughout 10 rounds to leave with the WBO Latino and Brazilian super middleweight titles.
