Braves News: Spencer Strider finishes strong, final game, more

Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday

Well this will be my last news and links piece of the 2025 regular season and while it’s been a frustrating one, there have still been plenty of fun things to watch. Drake Baldwin has been the best rookie in the NL and has had a really impressive season for a rookie catcher, complicating the future of the franchise at the position, but adding another core player to a still great position-player group. Spencer Schwellenbach further solidified himself as a top young pitcher in MLB. Hurston Waldrep reinvented himself to be a viable MLB starter with upside. Ronald Acuna returned to baseball and did a lot of cool Ronald Acuna things. Matt Olson was the best first baseman in baseball. Joey Wentz returned to Atlanta and was a playable back-end starter for a couple months, adding some promise to his journeyman career. Jurickson Profar got suspended, but looked like a good offensive player on his return. It’s important to enjoy and appreciate the fun things in sports, even when things don’t go the way we wish as fans.

Braves News

The Braves lost 3-1 to the Pirates, despite Drake Baldwin’s triple and double, further helping their draft position.

MLB News

Former catcher, now first baseman Willson Contreras may be willing to waive his no-trade clause, even as he hopes to stay in St. Louis.

The Phillies are activating star shortstop Trea Turner for the final game of the season, just in time for what they hope will be a deep playoff run.

Ron Washington expects to be healthy and hopes to manage the Angels in the 2026 season.

Drake Baldwin’s competition for NL ROY, Cade Horton of the Cubs, will miss at least the first round of the playoffs with a broken rib.

The Mets placed Brett Baty on the 10-day IL, as they need both a win and a Reds’ loss on Sunday to make the playoffs.
