The New York Giants decided to shake things up after a rough start to the 2025 NFL season. After three tough weeks, they’ve made a change at quarterback, handing the job to rookie Jaxson Dart over veteran Russell Wilson.

New York moved back into the first round of April’s draft to take Dart at No. 25 overall, and now he finally gets his shot to lead the offense.

Dart taking over the starting job has been long-awaited, with the Giants navigating one of the NFL’s toughest schedules and eager to see if the rookie can deliver on the promise that impressed them during the draft process.

With the Dart era now beginning in New York, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was on ESPN to share insight on the young signal-caller before his first NFL start against the Los Angeles Chargers.

"We had Jalen [Hurts] as a freshman at Alabama, who was the SEC Player of the Year," Kiffin said about his former quarterback. "There are a lot of similarities there — the way they play, run with the ball, and their passion for it. But that has to be controlled, too, because this is a big stage and a really good defense he’s playing today. He’s going to have to be really composed early on and not try to do too much."

Moreover, Kiffin gave his former quarterback advice as he begins this new phase as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

"Just take it easy, relax," Kiffin added. "This guy's played a lot of football for a college guy, for a rookie, and in a lot of big games. Really take it one snap at a time and don't try to do too much. I'm watching him warm up, and he looks like he's trying to throw the ball through the wall already. I don't know if he listened to me."
