Instant analysis of the Bills' 31-19 win over the Saints in Week 4.
The Buffalo Bills took their fourth-straight win to start the 2025 NFL season after topping the New Orleans Saints in Week 4 at Highmark Stadium.
The Bills (4-0) had another interesting day at the office because the Saints (0-4) stuck around more than most would have expected.
Because of that, it gave the feeling of a poor outing Buffalo. But it was still a 31-19 win, so something went right.
With that, here is Bills Wire's instant analysis of the team's win over the Saints:
What went right?
Josh and James led the way for the Bills on offense.
Quarterback Josh Allen unleashed the heroics in the fourth quarter to help the Bills pull away late. Allen was particularly impressive on a 27-yard scramble that set up a touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid right after.
Speaking of the tight end, Kincaid is having a breakout year as he caught his third touchdown of the season--that is already a career-high.
Also quietly on offense, running back James Cook had 117 rushing yards on 22 carries (5.3 avg). Cook added a touchdown as he is proving his worth.
Finally, safety Cole Bishop had his first-career interception to end a drive in the Bills' red zone. The Saints were driving. Hopefully like Kincaid, Bishop will build on his momentum.
What went wrong?
The Bills lost the field-position battle throughout the game as the Saints started multiple drives in positive field position.
Going hand-in-hand with the field position fight was a problem with penalties. Buffalo took 11 to only four for New Orleans.
Which helped lead to...
What's the bottom line?
Over the past two weeks, the Bills have let inferior opponents stick around.
On paper, beating the Saints and Miami Dolphins in Week 3 looked like a breeze. It was anything but that.
Even so, one has to admit that Buffalo did not look at their best. Which... deserves some context. If "playing poorly" means your team scores 31 points and holds an opponent under 20? Nearly every other team in the NFL would prefer that.
What's next?
Back to prime-time football and the AFC East. In Week 5, the Bills hope the New England Patriots (2-2) at Highmark Stadium. The contest will be played on "Sunday Night Football."
