YouTube Gold: Grant Hill Dunks All Over Alonzo Mourning

One of Hill’s best dunks ever.

When Grant Hill got to the NBA, he was an immediate star. He was named Co-Rookie of the Year along with Jason Kidd in 1995 and was on track to be an all-timer. Sadly, injuries robbed him of much of his athleticism and he had to re-invent his game on a much more modest level. That earned him tremendous respect as people began to respect his strength of character, because most people would have just given up. These weren’t normal injuries – one nearly led to amputation and death.

Before his struggles started though, as noted, Hill was a phenomenal player, one of the few who could begin to challenge Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

One of his greatest plays came against the Miami Heat on April 7, 1997 when he had a beef with Alonzo Mourning.

Hill and Mourning went down – Hill basically took Mourning down – and they were not getting along.

On the following play, Hill came down, juked his defender, Dan Majerle, then went right at Mourning, flushing one right in his face.

It’s great to see this to remember how impossibly good Hill was before things went south for him with the injuries.
