A contingent of Licking County golfers match up with participants from England every two years for a Ryder Cup style event.
Participants from the Licking Springs Country Club welcomed players from across the pond for the Newark Cup, a Ryder Cup style event held every two years.
The first Newark Cup was held in 1995 following an agreement between Newark Mayor Bill Moore and his contemporary in Newark-on-Trent, England.
This year’s event was held last week at Licking Springs after previously being held at Moundbuilders Country Club every four years.
Many of the participating players on each side continue to keep in touch and have visited each other’s home country outside of the event.
The Licking County contingent won this year’s event 21-7.
Alternate shot winners were Brian Brown and Bill Reynolds, Greg Ream and Rob Hess, Steve Antritt and Wayde Gutridge, Chad Fuller and Wayne Wycoff qnd Paul Carbetta and Joe Munhall.
Fourball winners were Mike Myers and Brown, Ream and Gutridge, Hess and Antritt, Munhall and Carbetta and Eva Wray and David Alspach.
Singles winners were Patty Ream, Eleanor McGee, Brown, Alspach, Reynolds, Wycoff, Gutridge, Ream, Myers and Hess.
The next event is scheduled before Sept. 9-11, 2027, at Newark Golf Club, Nottinghamshire, England.
